5 Easy Ways to Update Your Kitchen

With my job in real estate, I see my fair share of kitchens. A kitchen space is either what someone immediately falls in love with or… immediately wants to change. I know hearing the phrase “We would need to re-do the kitchen” tends to equals $$$ in people’s mind. Which is true, it can be a big undertaking, but there are some easy updates you can make to give your kitchen a fresh look and not break the bank.

Paint

I am always amazed by the transformative power a new hue of paint can have. It’s the easiest and most cost-effective way to give your kitchen a facelift. Right now, clean shades of gray & white are the best route to go. I love Benjamin Moore‘s white dove, lily of the valley, decorator’s white, gray owl, sleigh bells, stonington gray.

Organization

A cluttered kitchen is an eye sore. By creating a place for everything you will improve your kitchen’s workflow. Don’t forget to utilize wall & ceiling space for decor and functionality items. Your kitchen (& yourself) will feel so much calmer when things are organized and clean.

Add a backsplash

If you can’t afford a full-scale kitchen remodel, a smart way to easily update your kitchen is by switching out or adding a backsplash. Nowadays you have an unlimited number of tile options in terms of material choices, colors, and patterns. Choosing a beautifully patterned backsplash is a fun way to add depth, texture, and personality to your kitchen. You can find a full selection at Home Depot or your local hardware store. I always love white subway tile.

Light Fixtures

We all know lighting sets the mood at any space. A new light fixture is often an overlooked item but can really help tie the vibe of your kitchen together. From chandeliers, pendants to sconces there are so many options to chose from.

Freshen Up

A fresh floral arrangement or bowl of fruit go a long way in brightening up a kitchen. I also love the greenery and zero maintenance required of boxwood collections. This is an inexpensive fix that only takes a few minutes and can make any day feel like a special occasion.
