Caroline & Campbell’s 1st meeting

This was naive of me, but I thought Caroline would be so excited to meet her baby brother once he arrived.

We talked about baby brother’s arrival a LOT and for the most part their was a sense of excitement, but a 2.5 year old can only comprehend so much. To prep for baby brother’s arrival, I helped Caroline pick out a stuffed animal to gift him. I had envisioned us going to the store together and letting her hand pick something special, but due to covid we resorted to good ole fashioned online shopping!

Caroline & Campbell’s 1st Meeting
When we were discharged from the hospital Caroline was eating lunch and the hope was she’d go down for her nap and meet Campbell when she woke up. Well of course, why would she nap that day? When we came home Caroline was hysterically crying in her crib and I thought she’d be happy to see me and I’d be able to calm her down to rest. When I entered the room I noticed her pull-up wasn’t on her and she pooped in her crib, like an animal marking their territory. Aside from nap & bedtime Caroline was potty trained and had never done this before. After this welcome home surprise, I thought it would be best to help her get clean and calm and forgo naptime. I told her I had someone special downstairs who was excited to meet her!

Caroline held on tight as we made our way downstairs and she was quiet and reserved. She was reluctant to meet Campbell and not too excited about her new roommate. We gave her the space she needed and Campbell gave her a peace offering – a pair of pajamas, a little set of peppa pig’s family (we are BIG peppa fans over here) and a personalized book about the two of them. Caroline gave Campbell the same pair of pj’s (mama has matching ones too) and a little stuffed animal.

It’s safe to say they’ve come a long way since their first meeting and Caroline absolutely adores Campbell and the feeling is mutual. It is such a joy to see those two in action and watch their relationship grow. I have such a special bond with my two brothers and know siblings are a very special gift. And now we can have a good laugh about how their first meeting didn’t go as planned.
