My Favorite Baby Names and How We Named Our Kids

Choosing the perfect name for your baby can be a difficult process. So many names can be triggering to remind us of a teacher or classmate we weren’t particularly fond of. We found out the gender of both babies, which gave us plenty of time to think of names!

My maiden name is Kahn and I always liked the way the double constants sounded, but I didn’t want to go the K route – it felt too Kardashian for me.

Caroline is a classic name I have always liked and I loved the way Caroline Cassman sounded. Kevin liked the name, but needed more time to think on it. We used an app that is the equivalent of tinder for baby names, a fun resource for expectant parents. We didn’t gravitate towards anything and ultimately landed on Caroline.

We always knew her middle name would be after my mom. My mom’s full name is Karen Elizabeth Shorr. She jokingly told me she never loved first her name and wouldn’t want us to use that for any of our children, but we could use Elizabeth as a middle name. Which we did for Caroline in her honor – Caroline Elizabeth Cassman.

Kevin wanted to stick with the C trend and I wasn’t 100% on board, but open to it. My favorite baby boy name is Jack, but Kevin said if our son was Jack Cassman he’d be teased as Jack @$$. The thought never occurred to me, but since he grew up with the last name I took his word for it.

Prior to us being pregnant with baby #2 Kevin was at Starbucks and heard the barista call the name “Campbell” he immediately texted me to add it to our list of names for the future. We joke that Starbucks named our baby.

We ended up having a harder time determining Campbell’s middle name than his first name. We created a list and as a quarantine activity would omit a name each night. We both loved Beau but couldn’t agree on the spelling. Kevin liked ‘Bo’ and I preferred the traditional spelling of ‘Beau’ I kindly said my spelling or pick a new middle name.

And that’s how we got Caroline Elizabeth and Campbell Beau Cassman! Below are some of my favorite boy and girl names, if you need some inspiration! I thought this article had 10 great tips to help you with baby name ideas. It’s also fun to look through the list of the top 1000 baby names of 2021.
